About Sandra Masterson

My work is as much about process as it is about the finished pieces, the act of walking and collecting soil and plant materials is central to my art practice.

I relate strongly to herman de vries views on nature. The natural environment being our primary reality. Our human life-space in cities, offices, streets and traffic is a secondary reality.
The act of walking and collecting soils and plant materials is central to my art practice. The process of experimentation and direct engagement with the materials as I explore their unique qualities, is a constant source of wonder - A form of silent poetry.

"Space is composed of intersections of mobile elements. It is in a sense actuated by the ensemble of movements deployed within it. Space occurs as the effect produced by the operations that orient it, situate it, temporize it, and make it function in a polyvalent unity of conflictual programs or contractual proximities."
- Janet Harrison, (2007) A Walk in the Park, Arron Print
